Victor Osimhen continued his impressive start to the new season on Saturday night, finding the net as Galatasaray battled to a thrilling 3–2 victory over Göztepe at home.
The Nigerian striker once again proved to be a constant threat in front of goal. Osimhen converted from the penalty spot after he was brought down inside the box, taking his Super Lig goal tally to five this season.
He could have added another to his name, but a second effort was ruled out for offside. Despite that disappointment, Osimhen still made a major contribution to the result by providing an assist as Galatasaray secured another important three points.
The performance underlined just how sharp the 27-year-old has looked in the opening stages of the campaign. His goals, movement and ability to create chances continue to make him one of the biggest attacking weapons in the Galatasaray squad.
Osimhen Reunites With Old Friend Rafael Leão
There was also a special moment for Osimhen after the final whistle.
The Nigerian warmly welcomed Rafael Leão, who has recently joined Galatasaray from AC Milan. The arrival of the Portuguese forward has added even more excitement around the Turkish champions, particularly because of his existing friendship with Osimhen.
Leão revealed just how close the pair are after completing his move to Istanbul.
“Victor Osimhen and I are good friends and we will do great things for Galatasaray.”
The two forwards know each other well from their time together at French club Lille, where they shared the pitch before taking different paths in their careers.
Now, years later, Osimhen and Leão have the opportunity to reunite on the same team.
For Galatasaray, the partnership could prove extremely valuable. With Osimhen already finding his rhythm and Leão bringing pace, creativity and attacking flair, the Turkish champions have assembled a formidable attacking threat as they look to defend their league title.
